What A Glorious Feeling A play with music and dance by Jay Berkow

As is often the case with beloved screen and stage presentations, the making of this award-winning film holds stories every bit as fascinating as the finished product. Inspired by true events, What a Glorious Feeling brings to life the tempestuous love triangle between Gene Kelly; Jeanne Coyne, the film’s dance captain; and Kelly’s co-director (and Coyne’s ex-husband), Stanley Donen. Jay Berkow’s new play, fittingly filled with music and dance, celebrates the genius of this artistic collaboration as it explores the emotional complexity of the trio’s lives behind the scenes. Andrew Wyeth: An American Legend The exhibition, organized by The Hyde Collection, will introduce the broad span of work by this most beloved American artist. Curated by Hyde Executive Director David F. Setford and Deputy Director and Chief Curator Erin B. Coe, the exhibition will seek to unravel the myth surrounding Wyeth and understand the man behind the paintbrush. According to Setford, “This will be the first opportunity since the artist’s death earlier this year to begin to critically reevaluate his contribution to and position in American art of the twentieth century.”
The exhibition will feature sections devoted to early coastal watercolors and landscape paintings, as well as a look at Wyeth’s models, his interest in vernacular architecture, and his connection to both the Regionalist tradition and Magic Realism.
The exhibition will comprise approximately fifty works, with the core coming from the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine. Featured in the exhibition will be examples of the artist’s works created in dry brush, watercolor, pencil, and tempera - including The Hyde’s own Wyeth watercolor – The Ledge and the Island, 1937- as well as works on loan from museums and private collections. “By showing the spectrum of the artist’s subject matter and his masterful skill in a variety of media, we expect the exhibition to appeal to a very broad audience,” said Coe.

American Discourse Show at Lapham Gallery, with a reception Friday, June 30 from 5-7pm. Normal gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday, 10 am – 3 pm.
The exhibit features the works of five artists: Pam Barker, Pat Dowling Bull, Paul Chapman, Emily Thomson, and Anna Dibble. The artists’ work reflects various interpretations of life, ‘as they see it’. The range of Barker’s expressive sculpture, Dowling Bull’s visual ethnography, Chapman’s technical and personal realism, Thomson’s autobiographical studies and Dibble’s glance at human angst, together speak in a dialogue that leaves an imprint on the viewer.

World TeamTennis featuring Serena Williams and Martina Hingis Two of the world’s top professional tennis players – Serena Williams and Martina Hingis – will compete against each other in World TeamTennis action as Hingis’ New York Buzz host Williams’ Washington Kastles. Williams is the No. 1 ranked player in the world. She captured her fifth Australian Open singles championship earlier this year, the first player in the Open era to win that many Australian Open titles. She holds at least one singles championship from each Grand Slam event, and has 36 career singles titles. Hingis has won five Grand Slam singles championships, including three in 1997 (Australian, Wimbledon and US Open). She was the youngest Grand Slam winner in the 20th century and the youngest No. 1 ranked player in history. She won the 1997 Advanta Championships, capturing this title on center court at the Villanova Pavilion.

Individually, their respective prowess and accomplishments are impressive; but together, they're brutal and unstoppable. Megadeth and Slayer will join forces to co-headline "American Carnage," the most blistering, the most explosive, and the most eagerly anticipated mega-tour making its way to Glens Falls on August 11. In addition, Testament - who was also on the "Clash of the Titans" bill in 1991, will be Special Guests on the entire tour, marking the first time that all three bands have shared a stage together in more than 18 years, making this a "must see" metal event.

HACHI: A DOG’S TALE (2009, 93 mins, PG)
Free outdoor screening of Hachi - a true story of faith, devotion, and undying love. This American adaptation is based on a classic Japanese story (1924) of patience and loyalty. Hachiko was a dog who waited at every day at the station for his master to return from work and escort him home. This dog became an icon in Japan and a bronze statue was erected in his memory in front of the Shibuya Train Station in Tokyo.
